Pulling back the Curtain…
In November of 2024 the world clutched their pearls as the American people elected Donald Trump as president once more, this time with a clear mandate. He won every swing state as well as the popular vote. At the writing of this post he has been in office for about three months, and has put in place policies that have reduced the flow of illegal immigrants across the southern border to 10% of what it was when he took office. He has abandoned the New Green Deal and much of the environmental regulations which were choking the American economy. His “drill baby drill” energy policy is revitalizing the fossil fuel industry, beginning to lower the price of fuel for Americans. He has promised tax relief for middle income Americans, and has suggested to congress to replace income tax with tariffs and a flat sales tax. Perhaps most significant, is the way his Department of Government Efficiency has pulled back the curtain on government spending, revealing billions of dollars of waste and fraud in nearly every government agency. He has ended the “work from home” option for government employees, and has dismissed many that have been identified as non-essential by the DOGE. He has thrown much of the world into chaos with the application of trade tariffs attempting to equalize trade deficits. He is effectively ended the laundering of US tax dollars thru the Ukraine proxy war with Russia. Recently his Secretary of State declared the USAID permanently closed and delegated the building for use by another agency.
All these changes have been met with a great deal of opposition and hand wringing from the democrat leadership, legacy media, and activist federal judges who have been filing temporary injunctions against nearly every executive order. It seems there is a political civil war being waged, and it appears that at this point at least, the Trump administration is gaining ground. “What will we find left standing when the smoke clears?” is the question many on both sides are asking. To understand better how we got here, it may be helpful to back up and take a short historical tour over the past couple decades to remind ourselves of where we’ve been.
The Rise of Global Elitism…
How did America get from a nation once known as a melting pot, to a pot that appears to be boiling over? I have only begun following US culture and politics since the late 1990’s, and noticed already at that time an increase in the intensity of the division between the political left and right. When Obama was elected in 2008, I remember being cautiously optimistic about him being able to make good on his campaign promises to bring the nation together. What we got instead was “I have a pen and a phone, and I’m going to fundamentally change America!” Apparently that was just the beginning. Obama was successful in laying the foundation of the fundamental changes he envisioned for American culture. Then in 2016, when we all thought Hillary Clinton would shatter the glass ceiling and become the first woman to be president, the world was stunned by what appeared to be a political upset by Donald J. Trump. Prior to Trump’s first election, previous presidents, whether Republican or Democrat had always been part of “the establishment”. By establishment, I mean that small club of wealthy elites who understood the rules of the political game, the Bush family, the Clintons, even Reagan though he was somewhat of an outsider as well. As members of this elite club, here were things you did, and things you didn’t do. One of the most critical things you didn’t do was upset the order and agenda of the global elites, that agenda being to continue to quietly move the world toward a global system of government.
Upsetting the applecart…
When Trump got elected in 2016, it nearly upset the applecart! By contrast, in the first three months of his 2nd term in 2024 he has been kicking over globalist apple carts in every direction. The establishment elites who have been running things for the past 50 years are scrambling about, trying to keep their apples together. Trump was not part of the club. He apparently did not understand that making America great again runs counter productive to the globalist endgame of diminishing the role of America in the world to pave the way for a New World Order…or… maybe he did understand, which makes the dilemma even more problematic for the globalists. From 2016 to 2024 the global elites united their effort to resist and destroy Donald Trump in a barrage of negative publicity, impeachment attempts and litigation law fare. It was almost successful. The globalists did manage to get their approved candidate back in the Whitehouse in 2020. Whether that election was a true reflection of the will of the American people continues to be hotly debated in places as accusations of voter fraud still occasionally swirl about social media to this day. The newly elected President Biden once again promised to bring unity to the nation in the few scripted speeches he made in those days of masks and covid lockdowns. His administration’s actions however proceeded to double down on the globalist agenda of Obama. Biden’s campaign slogan was “build back better”, though exactly what he built beyond an ever widening rift between left and right, is not entirely clear. He had promised he would have the most transparent administration, yet rarely communicated directly with the public, and when the media actually had opportunity to ask any questions, the answers were typically a garbled version of “nothing to see here – please move on”. Biden rarely made public speaking appearances, and when he did it was aways clearly scripted. The few times he would go off script generally gave the media a few more gaffs and threw his aids into panic mode. The media continued to promote the claim that Joe was mentally sharp as a tack…until the fateful event of his debate with Trump in the run up to the 2024 election, when even his staunchest supporters could no longer hide his advancing dementia. And thus began the demise of Obama’s globalist dreams for America. According to Michael Goodwin writing in July of 2023 New York Post opinion article, Obama apparently spoke prophetically when he warned a fellow democrat about Joe Biden prior to the 2020 election. “Speaking to a fellow Democrat about Joe Biden being the party’s nominee in 2020, Obama famously warned, ‘Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f–k things up.'”
Flipping the light on…
When we first started visiting Florida about ten years ago, I had my first introduction to what they call a Palmetto Bug here in the south. A palmetto bug is essentially an exceptionally large cockroach, and I encountered it when I opened an empty cupboard above the stove. This bug acted as though it was highly allergic to light, and the shock of it nearly caused me to soil myself. It flapped an flittered around in that cabinet trying desperately to find a place to hide…and quickly met its demise courtesy of a direct hit with some Raid.
These first three months in Washington DC remind me of what happens when you flip the light on in a room full of cockroaches. The activity is frantic as they scurry about trying to find a dark place to hide. What Elon Musk and the DOGE have been doing is going from one government agency to the next, flipping on the light and exposing the waste and corruption that the American people have long suspected was there, but until now had no concrete evidence to prove it. What I found most stunning is the resistance that some politicians, bureaucrats and federal judges have mounted in attempting to keep it all covered. What makes it most incredulous is that it is glaringly obvious even to the casual observer that the people objecting the loudest are essentially revealing their guilty connection in benefiting from the corruption.
Imagine if you will, a group of people purchasing an apartment complex together in order share living expenses. When they first began their arrangement it was agreed that they would all share the cost of the mortgage and taxes and maintenance, and look after their own personal expenses. And for the first few years it worked well. They would have an annual meeting where they would elect an executive committee to manage the property, collect the rent and pay the bills. At one such meeting the executive committee announced that they were planning to allow a family of refugees to move into the empty apartment on the lower level. The family did not have the means to pay rent, but had agreed to do some general cleaning and to tend the landscaping in exchange for living there. The other members agreed that it would be the compassionate thing to do, and voted to approve the idea. For the first few months it all seemed to work out, until one of the members noticed that there seemed to be more than just one family living in the lower apartment. When the executive member was asked about it they explained that the refugee family had invited some extended family to stay with them but had assured them it was temporary. At the next annual meeting the executive committee explained that maintenance and property taxes were going up so they were going to have to raise the rent to meet the growing expenses. Shortly after that meeting one of the regular members noticed that several of the executive members were now driving new vehicles, and were upgrading their apartments with new appliances. When the member asked one of the executive members when the other apartments would be getting new appliances they were told there was not currently money in the budget to replace them all so they would have to wait til next year. The next year at the annual meeting the group elected a new executive committee, which turned out to be quite contentious as the old administration seemed reluctant to give up their positions. Shortly after taking their new positions the new committee hired an accountant to audit the books, and discovered that the for the past year the previous executive members had been spending rent money on personal items like cars and appliances and lavish “business” meetings at posh hotels. The new executive committee thought the other members would be grateful that this theft and waste of their rent money had been discovered, but they were shocked when the old executive members began spreading rumors that it was the new executive committee that was stealing the rent money, and were incensed that an outsider had been brought in to look at the books. Some of the members staged a small riot in the parking lot and set the accountant’s car on fire. The majority of the members could not understand why these demonstrating members were so angry at the people who discovered the theft rather than at the old committee members who stole the money! And…it would seem that’s were we are in America today! The roaches who stole the money are demonstrating and burning Teslas because they got caught.
Where to we go from here?
I believe it was a major league baseball coach who once explained that on any given ball team he would find that about 10% of the players thought the coach could do no wrong, and another 10% would never admit he did anything right, but that the remaining 80% just wanna play ball. He went on to say that his job as coach was to keep the 10% whom he knew would oppose everything he did, from having a negative affect on the rest of the team. That principle of leadership holds true for any organization of people, be it a business, a church, a ball team or a nation. The job of leadership is to keep the negative minority from affecting the rest of the team so that they can play ball. America is no different right now. The majority of Americans just want to have the freedom and opportunity to live their lives in relative peace and safety. The job of leadership is to keep the vocal negative minority from disrupting the rest of us. That’s why we have laws and enforcement, and that’s why we have the constitution. The constitution is not there to protect the government from the people, it is there to protect the people from government when it gets out of control. Some feel that the new current administration is out of control, but I suspect it is not so much that the Trump administration is out of control of the people, because the majority are supportive of what they have been doing. It is rather that the Trump administration is out of control of the established bureaucracy. And it is exactly for that reason that the majority of Americans voted for Donald Trump, because the established bureaucracy was out of control of the people. While he may not be perfect, and will undoubtedly make some mistakes, I believe that what Trump is attempting to do is to give the power back to the people, and with God’s help and protection he may just be successful.
